First Aid Level Courses (To change soon to the new HSE Guidelines)

Emergency First Aid (Appointed Persons)

Course Aim: To train and qualify personnel in the basic knowledge and skills required to take charge at the scene of an accident at work and provide emergency aid in the absence of a fully qualified first aider as recommended by the Health & Safety (First Aid) Regulations 1981.

Qualification: Emergency First Aid (Appointed Person) Certificate.

Validation: 3 years.                                 Course Length: 1 day.

Syllabus Includes: Role of the appointed person, Action to be taken at the scene of an accident, Basic life support, Unconsciousness, Control of bleeding, Recognition and treatment of shock, First aid equipment & supplies, Simple record keeping, Diabetes, Asthma, Epillepsy. Advice on hygiene, Hepatitis B, HIV & AIDS.

Important Note: This course can not be used as a substitute for the HSE approved First Aid at Work qualification where it is determined (after first aid needs risk assessment) that there is a requirement for fully qualified HSE approved first aider(s).

First Aid At Work (4 Day Course)

Course Aim: To train and qualify personnel in occupational first aid to the standards laid down in the Health & Safety (First Aid) Regulations 1981.

Qualification: HSE Approved First Aid at Work Certificate.

Validation: 3 years.                                Course Length: 4 days.

Entry pre-requisite: Students selected for HSE approved First Aid at Work training must be those who are reliable, and likely to remain calm in an emergency. In addition, they should have the aptitude and ability to cope with an intense course of study and be able to use the knowledge and skills learnt during the course. Students must not suffer from any medical or other condition that would restrict their ability to undertake the practical work which is an essential part of the first aid course. Their normal work duties must be such that they are able to respond immediately to a first aid situation.

Syllabus Includes: Legal framework for FAW & risk assessment, Fractures, Spinal injury, Muscle & joint injury, Basic life support, Unconsciousness, Heart attack, Angina, Epilepsy, Diabetes, Asthma, Recognition & treatment of shock, Poisons & harmful substances, Control of minor & severe bleeding, Crush injuries, Casualty examination, Transport, Head injuries, Eye injuries, First aid equipment & supplies, Record keeping, Burns & scalds, Chemical & electrical burns, Advice on hygiene, Hepatitis B, HIV & AIDS, Knowledge and skills assessments.

First Aid At Work Refresher Course

Course Aim: To update and re-qualify personnel in occupational first aid to the standards laid down in the Health & Safety (First Aid) Regulations 1981.

Suitable For: Personnel who are already qualified and hold a valid HSE approved First Aid at Work certificate which is nearing its expiry date.

Qualification: HSE Approved First Aid at Work Certificate.

Validation: 3 years.                                Course Length: 2 days

Entry pre-requisite: Students must hold a valid HSE approved First Aid at Work certificate, a copy of which must accompany course booking.

Syllabus Includes: As FAW course with any new information and changes as required.
